Location

North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) is the second largest of Australia’s rare and unique sand islands. ‘Straddie’, as it is affectionately known, boasts a warm temperate climate all year round ensuring the perfect holiday destination. Relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the tranquility of an uncrowded destination or indulge in the outdoor lifestyle, water sports and bushwalking.

Straddie is accessed by vehicular barge or passenger ferry departing from Cleveland, bayside suburb of Brisbane, arriving at Dunwich. Unless intending to explore the beaches or forest tracks, a 4WD vehicle is not needed.

It’s an unspoiled natural paradise abounding in diverse flora and fauna. The island features stunningly beautiful ocean beaches, mountainous sand dunes, perched inland fresh water lakes, remnant livistona rainforest and melaleuca wetlands. Adjacent ocean waters host the annual whale migration and offshore reefs teem with fish. Sensitive mangrove progressions fringe the western bayside.

Amity, flanked by the calm waters of Moreton Bay (Quandamooka), is a quiet seaside village with a rich and colourful history, a relic of simpler times popular with fisherfolk and those seeking to escape.

Activities/convenience

‘Sovereign place’ guests enjoy the best of multiple worlds... endless sandy beaches and adjacent forests, a world of exciting water sports or tranquil private facilities.

Some of the activities ‘Sovereign Place’ guests enjoy:
forest, beach & headland walking (from a quiet stroll spotting koalas to challenging day walks)
fabulous beach, rock, sheltered bay & offshore fishing (join a charter)
scuba diving & snorkeling
watch humpback whales on their migratory route
be mesmerized by dolphins at play
world class surf breaks
kayaking, jet skiing, sailing & wind surfing
swimming in sheltered waters or on ocean beaches
sand tobogganing (a real adrenaline rush!)
4WDing (beach access permits required)
visit freshwater Keyholes & picnic by freshwater inland lakes cycling (pack your bikes)
browse the museums & ‘Saltwater Murri Art Gallery’ & explore historic burial grounds
tennis, social bowls & golf (on a hilly course & dodge the kangaroos)

Don’t feel like cooking - ‘Seashells’ Café (a short 150m stroll from ‘Sovereign Place’) offers sumptuous alfresco all-day dining, coffee and take-away or chill out at the Amity Sport & Recreation Club.

Down on your luck with fishing - 2 fresh seafood outlets (within 200m of ‘Sovereign Place’) offer local fish, prawns, oysters and crabs second only to your personal catch for freshness and taste.

A general grocery store (400m from ‘Sovereign Place’) stocks most items including fresh produce.

We absolutely loved Sovereign Place. The peaceful setting, complete with koalas and kookaburras. A great garden for the kids to play, the wonderfully appointed kitchen and the really comfortable beds. The house is great for two families with little children, with no stairs to worry about. Thanks for all the thoughtful details. I couldn't recommend Sovereign place or North Stradbroke Island more highly!

The most outstanding accommodation and setting we have ever had the pleasure of staying in.

A definite must for anyone wanting peace and serenity at Amity, matched with an incredibly beautiful home to live in.

Will definitely be back, and will definitely let our friends know about Sovereign Place.

If you are looking for one of the best priced holiday accomodation on the island if not in Sout East Qld - this is it!! Thank you Ian and Aileen for allowing my family, friends and I stay in Sovereign Place!! It had everything we needed and enough space to have your own privacy should you need it, like to read a book, take a nap, play some games. So close to the beach, though, the house was so nice, we mainly stayed on the property and enjoyed it!! The amenities was fantastic and the location just right. Most of all it just gave all of us a feeling of being a home away from home. All I can say is you need to give this place a try to really value the experience you will get from staying!! Well done Ian and Aileen, you've done a fantastic job in creating this little piece of paradise in Stradbroke.

I just wanted to say that we had a brilliant holiday in the
house at Stradbroke. We all think it was our best family holiday yet! I have to say that your neighbours, Trevor and Nicole are worth their weight in gold. They were very helpful. The house is beautiful and the spot is perfect. We're planning our next trip. Annette

Ian & Aileen, We have just had the most wonderful week at Sovereign Place. The home is well appointed and have thought of everything. The proximity to the best fishing spots is great. We also found time to just relax, read & rejuvenate the body. Great place for a staff retreat, or writing a book, lots of inspiration. We will be back!!!
